IESA appoints Sanjay Gupta as Chairman for 2023-24

The Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), the trade body representing the Indian Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry has named Sanjay Gupta, president and chief executive officer of Spark Minda, as its new chairperson.

Gupta, who was earlier vice chairperson at the Association succeeds Vivek Tyagi, general manager and business unit head at Rptech who was appointed chairman for FY2022-23.

Commenting on his new role, Gupta, who has nearly three decades of experience in leading strategy, innovation, technology, R&D and management said that the role “offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth of this sunrise sector in India and accelerate the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative”.

“IESA will continue to drive strategic partnerships between industry, academia, and government to unlock the full potential of this sector along with supporting start-ups and emerging players in the industry more so in electronics manufacturing, thereby fuelling innovation and entrepreneurship. I look forward to collaborating with government, industry leaders and stakeholders to create a positive impact in the Indian semiconductor industry,” he added.

An alumnus of Indian School of Business (ISB) and engineering graduate from Delhi College of Engineering, Gupta is also known for his ethical leadership.

The new executive council for the year 2022-23 also includes V Veerappan, Co-founder & President of Tessolve, who becomes the Vice Chairman of the elected body, and Sudhir Naik, Founder & Advisor of EInfoChips Ahmedabad, who assumes the duties of the Treasurer. The newly elected council also includes Anku Jain of MediaTek, Hitesh Garg of NXP, Ashok Mishra of Reliance Jio and Manoj Kumar of ST Micro.

Krishna Moorthy K, President and CEO, IESA, added, “I look forward to working closely with the newly elected EC and Sanjay to foster collaboration across the industry. Together, we will continue to make significant strides in advancing the industry and supporting our members.”

The new council will be responsible for setting the direction of the organisation, developing strategic initiatives, and driving growth across the electronics and semiconductor industry in India.

India’s semiconductor component market will see its cumulative revenues climb to $300 billion during 2021-2026, according to the ‘India Semiconductor Market Report, 2019-2026’ — a joint research report by the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) and Counterpoint Research published on August 16 last year. The research further said that the country is poised to be the second largest market in the world, after the US, from the perspective of scale and growing demand for semiconductor components across several industries and applications.
