Telecom Tarrifs To Rise As Penetration Nears Tipping Point

Reliance Jio’s launch in FY17 resulted in a brutal price war in India’s telecom market. As a result, the industry ARPU (Average revenue per user) had plunged 38%. However, telcos are expected to raise prices in FY20 as mobile broadband subscriber penetration reaches around 65%. Data-addicted smartphone users are expected to help ARPU consistently recovering to pre-Jio levels, starting from second half of FY20 and tapering off by March 2022. Here’s a look.
