Sunrise UPC to switch off 2G at New Year

For the benefit of our customers, we have deliberately made the switch to a modern mobile network generation more flexible. However, since 2G connections are no longer needed in practice, we will also be deactivating 2G at the beginning of next year,» says André Kause, CEO of Sunrise.

Customers will only be affected by the deactivation in isolated cases, since only a very small proportion of them still use the corresponding devices. Sunrise has informed affected customers in a letter and will support them in switching to new solutions with a modern mobile communications standard (4G, 5G). Customers can obtain advice both in Sunrise shops (e.g., SIM card and device switches) and for B2B solutions (large companies from the account manager, small companies via 058 777 00 00).

The process of replacing old mobile communications standards with the new and more efficient generations is part of routine technological development. Sunrise is planning to discontinue the 3G standard, which is also becoming increasingly outdated, in the next three to four years.

The mobile network from Sunrise is the only mobile network in Switzerland to receive the highest rating of «OUTSTANDING» from connect magazine six times in a row. Even with 5G as the latest generation of mobile communications, Sunrise offers the fastest and largest network in Switzerland, as the connect measurements showed: «When taking both the 5G coverage area and 5G data rates into account, Sunrise comes out on top.
