Reliance set to launch Jio AirFiber

Reliance Jio is gearing up to launch a new service that will offer wireless internet at home and office. The service, called Jio AirFiber, was announced at the company’s 45th AGM last year, but its availability and pricing details have been kept under wraps. However, a recent report by The Economic Times suggests that it might hit the market in the next few months. The report cites RIL President Kiran Thomas who expressed his confidence in the wireless internet service. He said that it will “accelerate the company’s connected homes strategy”.

During the 2022 AGM, Mukesh Ambani revealed that with Jio AirFiber, users will be able to access wireless internet at fiber-like speed, enjoy various low-latency and high-bandwidth applications, parental control, Wi-Fi 6 support and more.

What is Jio AirFiber
Jio AirFiber is a new service that promises to deliver fiber-like speed over the air using 5G technology. Users can enjoy up to 1Gbps internet speed at home or office by simply plugging in and turning on the device, which resembles a white router with an antenna.

The service also offers various features and benefits, such as:

  • Parental control and Wi-Fi 6 support
  • Seamless integration with Jio set top box for TV viewing
  • Easy installation and management via an app
  • Ability to block certain websites or devices on the network

Jio AirFiber speed
Jio showcased the device in an advert late last year, which shows 5G speeds of up to 1.5Gbps. The telco shares that Jio AirFiber uses True 5G to deliver fast, reliable and extensive Wi-Fi coverage. The service can cover up to 1000 square feet on the same floor of a house or an office, thanks to its unique spectrum holding, the company claimed.

As for the instalment process, the official Jio website reveals that the only steps required to step up Jio AiFiber is just plugging it in and turning it on. Once turned on, the AiFiber will establish a personal Wi-Fi hotspot at the home, which will help users connect their devices to ultra-high-speed internet using True 5G.

The new Wi-Fi service is also said to bring tough competition to other broadband players such as Airtel, BSNL, and ACT. Jio AirFiber is based on Jio’s true-5G technology, which is built on SA (standalone) technology. This means that it does not rely on existing 4G infrastructure, unlike Bharti Airtel’s NSA (non-standalone) technology. Jio says that this gives it an edge over its competitors in terms of speed and reliability.

Jio AirFiber launch date
Jio promises the same speed on the cellular 5G network as well. Jio AirFiber is expected to launch soon in India and could be a game-changer for the broadband market, as it offers a convenient and affordable way to access 5G internet at home. IndiaToday
