Qualcomm, an American semiconductor manufacturer, on June 26 announced three new chipsets for mobile platforms – the Snapdragon 632, Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 429. The new chipsets brings integrated artificial intelligence capabilities, along with efficient design and improved graphic processing power.

“The introduction of Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 builds off Qualcomm Technologies’ highest-selling mobile platforms and provides users with increased performance and power efficiency, superior graphics, AI capabilities and enhanced connectivity features,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Here is what the new mobile processors offer:

Snapdragon 632: The new 600-series processor is designed for affordable devices in budget and midrange segment. The chipset is designed to offer enhanced gaming experience, video capture in 4K format, processor level AI capabilities and fast LTE speeds. Built on FinFET process technology, the Snapdragon 632 boasts combination of the Qualcomm Kryo 250 CPU and Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU, which results in up to 40 per cent higher performance in comparison to Snapdragon 626 SoC. The SoC supports up to 24-megapixel single camera or dual cameras at 13MP each, while display resolutions can scale up to FHD+ resolution. The Snapdragon 632 also includes the X9 LTE modem, which supports LTE Advanced technologies like carrier aggregation.

Snapdragon 439 and 429: The new 400-series Mobile Platforms are designed for budget smartphones for price-sensitive consumers. Both platforms are equipped with AI capabilities integrated to improve camera, voice, and security experience. Built on FinFET process technology, the Snapdragon 439 and 429 Mobile Platforms improve CPU performance and power efficiency by up to 25 per cent in comparison to Snapdragon 430 and Snapdragon 425, respectively. Both SoCs also feature the X6 LTE modem for fast downloads, smooth video streams, and improved web browsing experience. The Snapdragon 439 is equipped with an octa-core CPU, and includes the Adreno 505 GPU with up to 20 per cent faster graphics rendering. The Snapdragon 429 is paired with Adreno 504 GPU, for up to a 50 per cent improvement in graphics rendering. The Snapdragon 439 supports a 21MP single-camera and 8MP+8MP dual cameras, along with support for FHD+ resolution display. The Snapdragon 429 supports 16MP single-camera and 8MP+8MP dual cameras with up to HD+ resolution display.

Smartphones with Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 are expected to launch in the second half of this year. – Business Standard
