Portugal Plans Second 5G Auction In 2023

Besides the 5G frequency auction scheduled for April 2020, it is highly likely that Portugal’s National Communications Authority (Anacom) will also conduct a second 5G frequency auction in 2023, reports Economia Online. This year’s auction does not include the frequencies needed for the development of the “ultra fast” 5G, namely the 26 GHz range that has been identified by the EU for this type of new generation network.

The 5G mmWave or high-band technology enables the promised speeds of 1 Gbps to 2 Gbps. In the first phase, Portugal will have very limited 5G, using the 700 MHz band as well as 3.6 GHz.
