Nokia 9 PureView Launching In India Soon

The Nokia 9 PureView is finally launching in India. HMD Global confirmed the launch of its 2019 flagship phone via the Nokia Mobile India Twitter account on Thursday. The company is yet to provide an exact launch date, but the tweet suggests the launch could happen within a few weeks. The Nokia 9 PureView was first announced at MWC 2019 in February and has since been available in a few European markets and in the US as well.

HMD Global has not launched a lot of phones in India this year, at least not at the pace it did last year. So far, the company has bright the Nokia 2.2, Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2 to India, which are all budget phone ranging between Rs 5,000 to Rs 13,000. The Nokia 9 PureView is a flagship smartphone and will launch with a premium price tag in the country.

Nokia 9 PureView possible India price and launch date

Last year, HMD launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco in India at Rs 49,999. The Nokia 9 PureView has been launched in the US with a price of USD 699, which also roughly translates to around Rs 50,000 in India.

For a phone that offers a premium glass and metal design, penta-camera system and a flagship processor, the Rs 50,000 seems reasonable, but the competition right now is extremely fierce. We have phones like the OnePlus 7 and the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom that offer flagship specs including the latest Snapdragon 855 processor at under Rs 40,000. Considering the competition and the fact that HMD is launching the Nokia 9 PureView fairly late in India, we expect the price of the device to be well under Rs 50,000 when it comes to the country.

As mentioned earlier, HMD is yet to announce an official launch date for the Nokia 9 PureView, but the teaser suggests it could be just around the corner. It is possible that the company will launch the flagship in India later this month to coincide with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy A80 and Redmi K20 Pro.

Nokia 9 PureView specs

The Nokia 9 PureView offers a curved glass and metal sandwich design to offer a premium look. It gets a fairly traditional 5.99-inch 2K pOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Nokia 9 PureView is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset and comes in a single variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The USP of the Nokia 9 PureView is its penta-camera setup on the back, which is still a unique offering even after five months of its launch. All five cameras on the back of the Nokia 9 PureView offer 12MP f/1.8 sensors, three of which come with monochrome lenses while two offer RGB lenses. All five cameras shoot simultaneously at different exposures which are then stitched together to offer a single highly detailed photo. The raw image that is captured can then be edited using the preinstalled Lightroom app.

The camera system also allows for 10 times more light for brighter low-light photography and an enhanced Google Photos that lets you adjust background blur and other things after taking a picture. HMD Global has been touting professional-grade photography capabilities using the Nokia 9 PureView.

The Nokia 9 PureView also ships with stock Android 9 Pie and the phone supports wireless charging and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The company should announce an exact date of launch for the Nokia 9 PureView in India in a few days.―India Today
