Networks of future to accelerate socio-economic benefits

The networks of future or future-ready networks would fast-forward social-economic benefits for countries with new opportunities including in healthcare opening up, the UK-based BT executive said.

“I think in the social-economic sector, we have a look at and we say the networks of the future are going to help accelerate the benefits into all countries,” Pat Coxen, MD Strategy and Transformation at BT said.

Coxen was speaking at a Webinar on the transformational 5G technology on Thursday.

The executive added that some of the really big opportunities in the domains like healthcare where the applicability of transfer of knowledge and the ability to remotely operate, are likely to come up.

“We are seeing sort of the household having an average of about five connected devices, and we’re predicting that by 2030, that should be in the range of 50,” he said.

“Seamless connectivity will be a key trend for 2021. The connected elements of our lives will grow across all interactions – be it around health, wellbeing, security, training, learning and almost all other sections of our lives,” Coxen said, and added that businesses would need to build for simplicity, ease of access and ease of use.

“5G rollout is a huge opportunity for enterprises and will lead to shedding waste in the value chain. When we talk of designing intelligent infrastructure, and how I look at it is that it should be intelligent and smart enough to make your life easy- not just for you but for older people too, who are not so digital savvy,”
Wido Van De Mast, CEO, VolkerWessels Telecom said.

Prabhakar Atla senior vice president & head – Communications and Utilities at Cyient said that the company is seeing significant investments in communications and network infrastructure rollout from its customers.

“Network densification is a key area of focus and we expect 30-50% growth in the coming years. We anticipate a significant acceleration of 5G rollouts over the next 12 months,” Atla added. Prime24tech
