This year hasn’t been a good one for Motorola. First, the company didn’t launch too many phones in 2018, and the ones it did weren’t great compared to the competition. The last phone Motorola launched was the Moto Z3 series. Rumours suggested that the smartphone manufacturer was working on Moto X5, but sadly last minute the company decided to back off. Some rumours circulating on the internet suggest that Motorola is currently working on a Moto G6 successor aka Moto G7. Going by the rumours, Moto G7 could go official early next year. Another leak now reveals that there’s another phone Motorola is working on with Qualcomm’s yet-to-announced Snapdragon 8150 chipset. In fact, the new leak also reveals that the upcoming Snapdragon 8150 Motorola could come with 5G Moto Mods. The upcoming Moto device reportedly is codenamed “Odin”.
Motorola “Odin”: What We Know So Far?
This is for the first ever time that we are hearing about this Motorola phone. According to sources close to folks at XDA Developers, the Motorola phone codenamed “Odin” will actually be a new Z series phone and could be called Moto Z4. However, there’s no confirmation on this news from the company so take it with a pinch of salt. The report reveals that the Motorola Odin will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8150 chipset. If only the rumours turn a reality, this will be the first Motorola phone to come with the new chipset.
The report also reveals some of the specifications that the Motorola phone could pack. The Motorola Odin, the report claims, will come with 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage. There could be higher RAM and storage models of the phone too. On the software front, the phone is said to run Google’s latest OS aka Android 9 Pie and come with new 5G Moto Mod support.
Additionally, the report also reveals that the upcoming Motorola phone could pack an in-display fingerprint sensor like some of the recently launched Vivo and Oppo phones. This is because the source close to XDA developers claim that the company is working on software to handle an in-display fingerprint scanner.
As of now, Motorola is yet to reveal details about the phone, but considering most smartphone makers will launch Snapdragon 8150 next year, we also expect Motorola to do the same. Meanwhile, Motorola is also expected to launch the long-time rumoured Moto G7 in 2019, possibly in the early months of the year.
