More Telecommunication Towers Needed, Says DAP Katibas Chief

It is necessary to construct many more telecommunication towers in Katibas, Song, says Katibas Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Paren Nyawi.

In fact, more telecommunication towers are needed in Katibas especially at Nanga Bangkit, Ulu Bangkit, Ulu Tekalit, Ulu Iran, Katibas Tengah, Nanga Banjor, Nanga Takan, Ulu Katibas and some other places in view of the Sarawak government’s move to transform the state through digital economy, he added.

“As for now, in Katibas area, there are many more longhouses that have not got any telecommunications networking because of the vast areas except for the areas which are near to the telecommunication towers like Nanga Serau and Nanga Engkuah which is situated at Katibas Hulu.

“These technologies are necessary so that we will be able to narrow the gap between the rural and the urban areas,” he said when visiting Nanga Bangkit not too long ago during his walkabout in the area.

He added he had been hearing grouses from the community in Sungai Bangkit that Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau had failed to bring up the people’s issues to the State Legislative Assembly which he promised more than 40 years ago.

They said a telecommunication tower should have been built at Nanga Bangkit, which has a primary school, a clinic, an agriculture center and a longhouse which has been moved to Nanga Serau instead of at Nanga Nanga Engkuah, Ulu Katibas.

Paren also said he had received complaints from the community in Nanga Engkuah that the telecommunication tower had not been functioning for many months.

“This gives a problem to the communities in the three longhouses which are situated next to each other – Nanga Setuchok, Nanga Sesibau and Nanga Engkuah – and the nearby school, health clinic and an agriculture substation.

During the ‘randau’ session with the longhouses communities, Paren gave out a cheque allocated by Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jien to a representative of the parent-teacher association of SK Nanga Bangkit.Borneo Post
