Mobile tower in Burhanpur, MP topples

A day after 100-meter tall mobile network tower toppled in Burhanpur injuring three persons and damaging some structures, BSNL has launched a probe into the incident.

District administration has also started identifying dilapidated structures in order to remove them to avert similar incidents in future.

“Prima facie, it appeared that the tower was caught in a tornado before it bent in the middle and eventually toppled,” BSNL Indore division senior GM Sanjeev Singhal said. “A probe by experts has been launched to know the exact reasons that led to toppling of the tower which had been constructed using rust-free material,” he said.

“We are exploring all possible ways to compensate the damage to some private structures and the injured who are undergoing treatment in a private hospital.” he said. All the injured are stated to be in stable condition.

District administration has also prepared a GIS-based disaster management system for better handling of the emergency situations. “We are feeding required data in the system by identifying flood-prone areas, availability of rescue and relief equipment along with trained staff and ways to handle emergency situations better by reducing response time as well. Efforts are being made to educate people not to cross submerged culverts or overflowing nullahs/rivers,” Burhanpur collector Bhavya Mittal said. ToI
