Kalaam Telecom Group acquires Zajil

Bahrain telco Kalaam Telecom Group has acquired Kuwait ICT firm Zajil.

First reported by Capacity, Veer Arjun Passi, CEO of Kalaam Telecom Group said the deal will create an organization with $100 million revenue.

Passi added that the deal includes Zajil’s data centers in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, KSA, UAE, and the UK.

Zajil’s options
“Additionally, Zajil has ownership in the Europe-India Gateway cable (EIG), a 15,000km international fiber-optic submarine cable system that links 12 countries across three continents,” he said. “Alongside Kalaam’s new Kalaam Network Optical Transit (KNOT) terrestrial cable, it enables us to offer a unique combination of submarine and terrestrial options to customers, especially hyperscalers, cloud operators, and content players.”

Zajil’s data center in Kuwait is a single story building built to Tier III standards, according to the company’s website. It features raised floors and temperature and humidity controls, along with VESDA fire prevention.

Launched in 2005, Kalaam Telecom provides teleco and data center services across the Middle East. This is the second deal the company has made involving Kuwaiti companies; in 2018 Kalaam acquired Tawasul Telecom.

Kalaam launched the 1,400km, 12.8 Tbps KNOT terrestrial cable last year. DCD
