Intel launches 11th Gen Core H-Series mobile processor

Intel on Tuesday launched its 11th Gen and 10th Gen Core H-Series processors for laptops, bringing powerful upgrades to CPU, graphics, and network performance compared to desktop computers, according to the company. The company also announced the 11th Gen Core vPro H-series and Xeon W-11000 processors on Tuesday.

Built on the new Willow Cove Core microarchitecture, Intel’s new mobile processors are built on a 10nm SuperFin fabrication process and are support up to 5.0 GHz in turbo mode. According to Intel, the new 11th Gen Core-H series will also feature improvements of up to 19 percent for multithreaded performance, with support for the latest discrete graphics.

The company also says that some SKUs will allow overclocking, allowing per core voltage control, other enhancements using Intel’s XTU (Extreme Tuning Utility). Meanwhile, the company’s Speed Optimiser app should allow for better multi-threaded performance by raising all core frequencies. The new chipset also supports Intel’s capable Xe graphics out of the box.

Intel says that its highest-end i9-11980HK chipset will support overclocking via XTU, Speed Optimiser and Turbo Boost Max 3.0, while gamers should also benefit from 20 PCIe Gen 4 and 24 PCIe Gen 3 lanes, support for the latest third-party graphics, support for 120Hz 4K displays – or 360Hz at 1080p resolution.

Meanwhile, the 44 PCIe lanes will also support over three times I/O bandwidth over the previous generation and support booting in RAID0 mode, the company claims. On the connectivity front, Intel says that the new 11th Gen Core-H series processors will support fast access to storage via Thunderbolt 4 which supports up to 40Gbps transfer speeds – while allowing for charging as well.

Devices featuring the new chipsets will also have access to WiFi 6 connectivity, with support for WiFi 6E coming as part of software updates over the coming months. The company says it is targeting over 300 million creators and over 14.billion PC gamers, by seeding over a million units that will feature in over 80 OEM models that feature the new processors.
