IAFI sets up Task Force on 6G to support ITU studies

IAFI (ITU- APT Foundation of India), announced the formation of a new Task Force to address the emerging challenges and opportunities in the development and standardization of 6G technology, particularly in relation to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) activities concerning the IMT-2030 framework and performance evaluation.

Dedicated to augmenting India’s participation in the advancement of IMT technology within the IMT-2030 framework, IAFI in an inclusive effort has opened the doors to various telecom stakeholders from Industry, academia and research organizations around the world to join the newly established IAFI Task Force on 6G.

Announcing the formation of the Task force, Bharat Bhatia, President IAFI stated the Task Force will provide a collaborative platform for enhancing India’s participation in the ITU discissions on IMT-2030 for industry, academia, research institutions, and standards development organizations and will aim to further expand on ubiquitous and affordable connectivity, support development of telecom and semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, thus taking lead in 6G Technology ecosystem and services.

“With 6G poised to revolutionize the telecommunications landscape, it is imperative that there should be a collaborative effort in shaping its trajectory in alignment with global standards and best practices,” said Bharat Bhatia, President IAFI. “IAFI invites participation in the exciting journey towards unlocking the full potential of 6G technology. The commitment and contributions will be invaluable in shaping a future that is inclusive, innovative, and sustainable,” adds Bhatia.

By joining this Task Force, members will have the opportunity to:

  1. Contribute to shape the future of 6G technology through active participation in discussions, research, and strategic initiatives.
  2. Contribute to the work of ITU-R, ITU-T, ITU-D and APT from development of contributions, presentation in the meetings of these organizations and actively engage in the development of 6G standards and applications.
  3. Engage with key stakeholders, including industry leaders, policymakers, and academia, to drive consensus on critical issues related to 6G development and standardization.
  4. Stay informed about the latest developments, trends, and regulatory frameworks shaping the 6G ecosystem.
  5. Leverage the collective expertise of the Task Force members to address technical challenges, promote innovation, and foster international cooperation.

The Task Force will convene regular meetings, workshops, and collaborative sessions to facilitate knowledge sharing and collective action. The participation of members will be instrumental in achieving IAFI’s shared objectives and advancing the global 6G agenda.
