GCC space needs be reimagined to groom future leaders

Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh has called for the reshaping of the GCC (Global Capability Center) space to make India a hub for future leaders and CEOs. “There is a huge opportunity to tap into. What we need is to rethink. It’s not just about moving up the value chain, working on product designs and providing end-to-end product development,” she said.

Speaking at the Nasscom GCC conference here on Thursday, she said the Indian companies play a key role in research and development of global organizations. “You should start looking at creating a pool of future CEOs and leaders. We need to think about building, redesigning the future for the companies. That’s the biggest opportunity,” she says.

KS Viswanathan, Nasscom’s Vice President of Industry Initiatives, said there is tremendous scope for growth in the GCC space in the country. “Only 1,500 of the more than 10,000 global enterprises have set up GCCs in India. While we have a 45 percent share of the global GCC pie, there is still huge reach,” he said.

The GCCs contributed to about a third of the 450,000 jobs created by the IT industry last year.

Gunjan Samtani, partner and head (Goldman Sachs Services India), said the Indian economy could reach the $10 trillion mark by 2036. “A significant portion of that will come from companies disrupting the use of technology,” he said.

He said Web 3.0 and Metaverse presented a global opportunity of $8 trillion by 2031, he said they could contribute about $1 trillion to India’s GDP.”

Strong growth in GCC numbers
Earlier, Telangana’s IT and Industry Minister KT Rama Rao, the main note on “A Prospect for the Decade of Action,” said there were about 1,500 GCCs in India setting up more than 2,500 centers in various cities. “Of the 1,500 GCCs, more than 150 GCCs have set up operations in India in the past two years alone,” he said.

“The key growth levers for the GCC market are talent availability in the digital and emerging space, the innovation ecosystem, infrastructure, liveability and stable governance,” he said. News Of Canada
