Friday Bytes: Comcast Business, Juniper, Nokia

On the metro fiber front, Comcast Business is putting more money to work in the MidAtlantic. The cable MSO has announced the investment of more than $1M to expand its footprint in Manassas, Virginia. The expansion brings the company’s network within reach of another 400 businesses, enabling them to deliver up to 100Gbps of connectivity. The buildout includes both aerial and underground fiber south of the Manassas National Battlefield and Route 66.

Juniper has picked up some business in the Far East. Ricoh Group has put Juniper’s routers, gateways, switches, and Junos operating system to work to power its network in Japan. The deployment supports some 500 locations and 34,000 users across the country. Ricoh has further plans to leverage Juniper’s SDSN framework.

Meanwhile, Nokia has also been busy in APAC. Yesterday they announced the completion of the first phase of an Optical LAN for Jeju Shinhwa World. Jeju Shinhwa World is a hotel resort with giant theme and water parks on the island of Jeju south of the Korean mainland. Nokia’s fiber-based network will supply the connectivity and IT services needed for 1,326 hotel rooms.-Telecom Ramblings
