The Delhi High Court has transferred all cases related 2G spectrum scam from the court of special judge O. P. Saini to the court of special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar. The transfer of the cases comes as Saini will retire by the end of this month.

All cases pertaining to Aircel-Maxis scam, involving P. Chidambaram and his son, have also been transferred from Saini to Kuhar, who is trying INX-Media cases against the father-son duo.

“Chief Justice and Judges of this Court (high court) have been pleased to order that cases pertaining to 2G Spectrum scam pending in the Court of Mr O P Saini, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (PC Act)(CBl), Rouse Avenue Courts Complex, New Delhi be transferred and allocated to the Court of Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI)-09, Rouse Avenue Courts Complex, New Delhi presently presided over by Mr A K Kuhar with effect from October, 1, 2019 which shall be the designated Court to undertake the trial of the said 2G Spectrum Cases in addition to matters already pending before the Court of Mr A K Kuhar,” the order issued by the high court said.

In December 2017, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court presided by Saini acquitted all 17 accused in a case related to irregularities in the allocation of 2G telecom spectrum and licences.

In July 2018, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a supplementary charge sheet in the Aircel Maxis case, naming P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram as accused. The father-son duo was granted anticipatory bail in the case by Saini on 5 September. On the next date of hearing, the case was adjourned sine die.―Livemint
