Call Drops Irk BSNL Subscribers

Mobile phone and landline phone subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited here have been facing frequent ‘call drops’ for the past few weeks. Though the issue was brought to the attention of officials, no step was taken to solve the problem, say subscribers.

In case of call drop, the service provider can be penalized as per the ruling of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India but it is going on here for the past few weeks.

When a conversation breaks abruptly, the caller cannot reconnect with the receiver as the caller would get the recorded message: all lines in the routes are busy. The caller may get reconnected with the person on the other side after 10 minutes or so.

Users of landline connections in the Special Branch Office in the District Police Office are victims of call drops. The Tirunelveli City Intelligence Wing experience the problem. Mobile phone subscribers also face the issue but nobody from the BSNL is ready to address the matter.

When contacted, a senior woman officer replied that the ongoing “new generation technology” upgrading work could be the reason behind call drops. After taking down the landline and the mobile phone numbers that suffered frequent call drop, she assured that she would pass on this complaint to the officials concerned.

Another senior official, when contacted: “If you are not satisfied with our service, you may use the mobile number portability to avail services of other operators.”

General Manager, BSNL, Tirunelveli Telecom Circle, Muruganantham, assured that he would look into these complaints immediately.―The Hindu
