US Yet To Issue Any Licences For Huawei Sales After Over 130 Applications

The US Commerce Department has received more than 130 applications from companies for licences to sell US goods to Huawei, three unnamed sources told Reuters. The Trump administration has not yet granted any of the licences, according to the report.

The current number of license applications, not previously reported, far exceeds the 50 or so that US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross disclosed in July.

A spokesman for the Commerce Department said the process of weighing licence requests concerning Huawei “is currently ongoing”. One of the sources noted that the review process was not delayed, pointing to the complexities of interagency consultation.

The Commerce Department has previously said its default position is to deny licences. Earlier this month it granted a 90-day reprieve to Huawei to continue to do business with customers without licence in a limited number of cases, in order to maintain existing products.―Telecompaper
