Twitter India looking to replace second interim complaints officer

Twitter wants to appoint a new Grievance Officer in India.

The social network hired an interim officer in June who resigned, and then appointed another grievance officer as an interim measure.

According to the listing on LinkedIn, the company has now put someone up a listing on LinkedIn over the weekend to hire for the role, something that both Facebook and WhatsApp are also exploring.

The Grievance Officer job is part of the requirements as per the new IT rules – companies like Twitter, Facebook and Google have to appoint a local grievance officer to manage the grievances and grievances of Indians.

In February, the Indian government announced new IT rules that would require social media platforms, OTT platforms and other large tech firms to set up a grievance redressal mechanism with an official based in the country.

Social media and OTT platforms were required to remove any content flagged by the authorities within 36 hours.

Twitter released job listings looking for a “Resident Grievance Officer” in Mumbai.

The final notice to the platform to comply with the new IT rules was given by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in May.

In June, it appointed an interim complaints officer in India, who reportedly stepped down the same month.

Earlier this month, Twitter appointed Vinay Prakash as the new interim complaints officer and said he plans to make a final appointment for the job in eight weeks.

WhatsApp has also put up a job listing on LinkedIn looking for a “Nodal Contact and Grievance Officer” based in Mumbai.

“We are looking for a highly motivated professional for the role of Nodal Contact Person and Grievance Officer for WhatsApp in India. This person will coordinate with law enforcement agencies in India, including facilitating timely response to legal requests valid under applicable law and our policies,” the job listing reads.

Some of the responsibilities outlined on LinkedIn for this post include overseeing coordination with law enforcement agencies 24/7, and working with internal teams to respond to legal requests.

To ensure that requests from law enforcement are “reviewed and handled in accordance with applicable law and WhatsApp’s policies.”

Another responsibility is to provide regular feedback to internal teams regarding law enforcement actions in the country.

According to a LinkedIn post, the job listing for Facebook’s “nodal liaison and grievance officer” has seen 41 applicants over the past two weeks and the listing is still open. Indian Lekhak
