Telekom And Vodafone Team Up To Improve 4G Coverage

Deutsche Telekom, which provides fixed and mobile services via its Telekom Deutschland subsidiary, is teaming up with Vodafone Germany to improve LTE coverage in rural areas and along traffic routes. The two companies plan to implement active network sharing at a total of 4,000 selected antenna sites to eliminate so-called ‘grey spots’ across Germany, i.e. in locations where 4G services are only available from a single provider. Each company will provide the other with access to around 2,000 mobile sites for LTE coverage. Talks with the Federal Cartel Office and Federal Network Agency (FNA) are currently underway and the companies hope to launch the project this year.

The latest cooperation follows and agreement between Vodafone, Telekom and Telefonica to eliminate up to 6,000 ‘white spots’ (areas where there is no mobile reception) across the country in November last year.―Comms Update
