Tax not paid, telecoms to lose mobile tower connections in Panchkula

The Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC)’s F&CC (Finance and Contract Committee) has decided to close down the mobile tower links for telecom property tax defaulters and seal their territories. Despite a levy on pending taxes, those who have not paid their taxes are subjected to this step. Besides, the MC is concerned about getting its money back from the revenue and mining business. The meeting was held to determine which areas of the civic body could generate more revenue.

They also informed the mayor that the Haryana government had waived the interest on the pending house tax, but that many of them are yet to pay. Officials were advised by the mayor to keep an eye on major defaulters. According to the mayor, sealing notices should be sent to residents who are unable to pay their house tax despite the interest rate waived. After receiving notices, many mobile tower firms began paying taxes to install their mobile towers and lay wires, according to superintendent engineer (SE) Vijay Goyal.

The Mayor encouraged him to snap the links of those who weren’t paying the right amount of taxes. On the subject of the Shalimar Mall tax, the mayor asked the departments concerned to re-measure the tax and issue a new property tax notice. In the case of the MCs’ contribution to the mining and revenue department, he urged F&CC executive members to make sure the two departments paid their share. The mayor expressed displeasure with unlawful construction on MC property and called for swift action against those responsible. The Times Bureau
