Tata to acquire Wistron’s iPhone 14 plant

The Tata Group is nearing an agreement to acquire Wistron’s iPhone 14 manufacturing facility in Karnataka. The factory has more than 10,000 employees, and Wistron has invested Rs 1,250 crore in the plant. The USD 600 million acquisition could take place as early as August.

Tata has plans to ship $1.8 billion iPhones from the location, the original commitment made by Wistron to gain PLI incentives from the government.

The Tatas have tie-ups with other Apple vendors to manufacture iPhone enclosures, which account for 9-12 per cent of the cost of production of an iPhone.
