Taiwan handset sales weak in March
Handset shipments in Taiwan slipped 15% sequentially and 10% on year to 426,000 units in March 2020, affected by the coronavirus pandemic, according to data compiled by local retail channels.
With iPhone 11 128GB being the best-selling model in Taiwan, Apple still kept its number one title in the local handset market in March with a 30.7% share in terms of unit shipments.
Samsung held the second place with a 26.6% share as a number of its models, including the Galaxy A51, A20, A71 and Note 10 Lite, were among the top-10 models in the month, the data showed.
China-based brands Oppo, Redmi and Realme also performed relatively strong in the month, said sources at retail channels. Oppo ranked third with a 11.2% share, Redmi was fourth with 6.3% and Realme stood at sixth with 3.6%.
Handset shipments in the local market may not pick up significantly until the third quarter when vendors begin to launch multiple 5G phones, commented the sources.
