Chinese phone manufacturer realme will hold a global launch event on 24 February to announce the rollout of its Internet-of-Things and 5G devices.

A live stream of the event can be seen beginning at 8pm AEDT on FacebookYouTube and the company’e website.

The company, which was formed in 2018 by former OPPO vice-president Sky Li, launched its first 5G device in China in January. The X50 5G is claimed to be one of the first to be built atop the Snapdragon 765G processor.

realme’s first flagship smartphone, the X50 Pro 5G, will have the Snapdragon 865 processor.

A statement from the company said it was looking to make 5G available to everyone.

Since its founding in 2018, realme has opened operations in China, India, Southeast Asia, Europe, Russia, Pakistan and Africa.

Though it split off from OPPO, the company is still backed by its parent, with a shared production line, supply chain and ColorOS, a modified version of Android.

OPPO is one of the three brands sold by BBK Electronics, with the others being vivo and OnePlus.-IT Wire
