Phase III, IV, V MTCTE implementation of selected telecom products postponed

DoT has announced the postponement of the implementation of Phase III, IV and V of mandatory testing, MTCTE of some telecom products. Effective from July 1, 2023 it has now been postponed on industry’s request for 3/6/12 months, varying from product to product.

The new date for 5G products is July 1, 2024; for optical fibre, OFC, base stations, repeater for cellular networks, satellite communication products January 1, 2024 and for 2.4/5GHZ products, media gate ways, DWDM, Mobile switching centre October 1, 2023.

Mandatory testing of telecom products is a welcome step in the interest of domestic industries as also national security issues. This was introduced in September 2017 by amendment to Indian Telegraph Rules, 2017. The mandatory testing is already operational for some telecom products such as ONT, GPON, EPBX etc.

TEMA expressed appreciation of the commitment of the government led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Minister of State Ashwani Vaishnaw. Ravi Sharma, Chairman, TEMA said “This step will help domestic manufacturers and also serve national security Issues. We welcome this postponement of MTCTE.”
