Indosat targets 4G LTE in 645 remote locations by 2022

Indosat Ooredoo, Indonesia’s leading digital telecommunications company, continues its network coverage expansion by adding 4G/LTE service in 124 remote villages. The network deployment is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the Government’s program to fulfill 4G coverage throughout Indonesia and deploying 4G/LTE service across 645 remote villages by 2022.

Commemorating the 76th Postal and Telecommunications Day, Indosat Ooredoo launched one of its new 4G/LTE sites at Ondo-Ondolu Village in Batui District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi. The Banggai Regency has been well-known for its marine tourism sector and one of the hidden gems of tourism in Eastern Indonesia with its many breathtaking beaches and exotic islands.

Arief Musta’in, Director & Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of Indosat Ooredoo, said, “The addition of 4G/LTE new sites has been carried out since last August and will continue to reach 645 remote villages by the end of 2022. Through the video-grade network expansion, strengthened by various products and services that are simple, transparent, relevant, and worry-free, we hope to provide optimal benefits to rural communities in a sustainable manner.”

Indosat Ooredoo has added 4G/LTE service in 124 remote villages, with Mamuju and Banggai Regencies in Sulawesi are getting more additional sites to support the needs of villagers who increasingly demand video-grade internet connection. Some of the remote villages, including: Pulo Kruet, Tanah Pilih, and Jadi Mulya Village in South Sumatra; Sumare and Taan Village in Mamuju, West Sulawesi; and Padang, Sinorang, Ondo-Ondolu, and Maleo Jaya Village in Banggai, Central Sulawesi.

Banggai Regent, Amiruddin Tamoreka, at the inauguration of Indosat Ooredoo’s 4G service in Ondo-Ondolu Village, said, “For 37 years the Ondo-Ondolu people have lived without a touch of digital technology. Therefore, we appreciate Indosat Ooredoo for presenting its telecommunication services in this village for the first time. And starting today, we hope that the community can take advantage of telecommunication services positively and as much as possible so that the village’s potential can be maximized for the welfare of all residents. Hopefully, this will be a good step for accelerating digital equity in other remote areas in Indonesia.”

The Indonesian Government has intensified the fulfillment of 4G coverage throughout the country by coordinating with cellular operators, including Indosat Ooredoo. A total of 3,435 remote villages are still in the 4G network blank spot category, of which Indosat Ooredoo will take part in deploying 4G/LTE service across 645 remote villages to be completed by 2022.
