India’s semiconductor sector thrives as global firms tap local talent
The semiconductor industry in India is experiencing a remarkable surge, with a significant 30% of new global capability centres (GCCs) established in the country during the last quarter of 2023 focusing on semiconductor technologies. This trend underscores a growing recognition of India’s vast talent pool, particularly in front-end design, performance testing, and post-silicon validation, as highlighted by a Nasscom-Zinnov report.
Leading the charge in this expansion are innovative companies like Signature IP, EdgeCortix, and M31 Technology Corporation, each contributing unique expertise to the semiconductor ecosystem. Bengaluru and Hyderabad emerge as key hubs for semiconductor GCCs, hosting over two-thirds of the total 55 centres and employing a specialized workforce of 50,000.
Key roles across the semiconductor value chain, from ASIC design engineers to RF test engineers, underscore India’s pivotal role in the global semiconductor landscape. With giants like AMD investing billions in establishing cutting-edge design centres, India solidifies its position as a vital player in semiconductor innovation, poised for exponential growth in the years ahead.
