Foxconn To Make More Ecosystem Devices In India

According to a report by ET, iPhone maker Foxconn has informed that it may look at extending its manufacturing capabilities to make more ecosystem devices in India for domestic and global needs and is currently awaiting clarity from the government on the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme, which will allow the company to drive ‘mobile plus’ capacity.

Foxconn India MD and country head Josh Foulger, told the news daily that Foxconn makes anything and within reason, they will look at all possible opportunities to support our customers. They will continue to look at evaluating various options as we move forward.

Next 36 months crucial

Foulger further stated that the next 36 months will be crucial for the country in terms of technology with the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and Artificial Intelligence. Mobile phones and all ecosystem products will be propelled by 5G.

He added that the government is proactively seeking inputs from the industry, and Foxconn has already provided its inputs through the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association of India (ICEA), which represents major players like Apple and Xiaomi.

He further informed that in the recent past, corporate tax reduction is something in the right direction. The ease of doing business has improved. Not do they only see the progress on the policy front, but also on the ground changes with different state governments. The key state governments are an important part of these things. We see positive traction. it is very synergistic to enable manufacturing.

Muralikrishnan B, Xiaomi’ India chief operating officer, told the news daily that the relationship between us dates many years back. It is a very close relationship, if there is any opportunity for close synergy, we will explore it. However, the core of the relationship is around the smartphone.―ACE
