The Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) has collaborated with a private firm to install 70 ground-based telecom sites (smart towers), 60 smart poles, and laying of 100-kilometre underground fibre network.

Smart poles will be equipped with WiFi access points, smart lighting solution (LED lights consuming lesser energy), and CCTV cameras (for video surveillance). All these projects will be carried out under a PPP model.

“Our vision is very clear — better standards of safety, connectivity and healthcare. DSCL has several initiatives with a Smart City focus, like CCTVs, Environmental Sensors, etc. This new contract is for Smart Pole and optic fibre deployment to provide seamless digital connectivity,” said Ashish Bhatgai, Assistant CEO of DSCL.

Meanwhile, mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama said that Smart Roads will be expanded from 8 km to 61 km in the city

“Content will be consumed in a very different way in the next decade. We are delighted to partner with DSCL and together we aim to provide a robust NextGen telecom infrastructure in Dehradun. Uttarakhand is not new territory for us as we have previously been involved with the state in various capacities. We express our heartfelt gratitude to the DSCL for partnering with us to help improve lives of citizens of Dehradun and boost tourist inflow,’’ said Bimal Dayal, CEO of Indus Towers.―Times of India
