Apple and SpaceX eye iPhone 18 Pro satellite internet breakthrough

Elon Musk and Apple are reportedly back in negotiations after previous talks about satellite connectivity deals collapsed. This renewed interest comes as SpaceX prepares to assume control of the valuable 2 GHz spectrum acquired from EchoStar in a $17 billion deal. SpaceX’s acquisition positions it as a formidable player in direct-to-device satellite communications, expanding Starlink’s coverage and capabilities and making Apple a potential strategic partner for integrating satellite connectivity features in future iPhones, such as the iPhone 18 Pro beginning in 2026.

SpaceX has reportedly made technical changes to its next-generation Starlink satellites to support the radio frequency spectrum used by current Apple devices, in anticipation of a potential deal. The partnership could allow for faster, broader satellite service on Apple phones, outpacing Apple’s current partner Globalstar. Globalstar is reportedly considering selling itself amid rumors Apple may switch to SpaceX for future connectivity solutions.

The negotiations and spectrum purchase signal heightened competition in mobile satellite connectivity and could reshape market dynamics for device makers, carriers, and satellite operators.
