Amazon, Google looking to set up R&D centers in Taiwan
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has disclosed it is in talks with international enterprises, such as Amazon and Google, about setting up high-tech R&D centers in Taiwan.
Economics minister Shen Jong-chin said that in the wake of the US-China trade war, establishing high-tech centers and advanced manufacturing hubs in Taiwan will be crucial for the country’s development in the next two to three decades.
Shen was speaking at a ceremony marking the signing of letters of intent by a few companies – Radiant Opto-Electronics, Japan Display’s Taiwan subsidiary Kaohsiung Opto-Electronics, JET Optoelectronics and Loami Biotech – for using new office and factory buildings to be constucted at Kaohsiung’s Export Processing Zone to promote smart manufacturing.
