IAFI to convene India’s premier 6 GHz Wi-Fi policy summit
The ITU-APT Foundation of India (IAFI) will host its flagship 6 GHz Wi-Fi Conference 2026 on 24 June 2026 at Le Meridien, New Delhi, bringing together leading policymakers, regulators and industry leaders to deliberate on standard-power Wi-Fi, AFC implementation, coexistence frameworks and the future of 6 GHz spectrum in India
Held under the theme “Unlocking the Full Potential of 6 GHz Wi-Fi in India: Policy, Power & Possibilities,” the conference comes at a pivotal moment in India’s digital connectivity journey. Following the opening of the lower 6 GHz band for low-power indoor Wi-Fi, attention is now turning to the next generation of regulatory decisions, including standard-power operations, outdoor Wi-Fi deployment, Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) systems and spectrum-sharing frameworks.
The conference is expected to attract nearly 200 participants from government, industry, academia and international organisations, making it one of India’s most significant forums on next-generation wireless connectivity and spectrum policy.
Speaking on the occasion, Bharat Bhatia, President, IAFI, said: “The 6GHz band represents one of the most important opportunities to expand affordable, high-performance wireless connectivity in India. This conference will provide a platform for evidence-based dialogue among policymakers,
regulators and industry leaders to help shape a balanced and forward-looking regulatory roadmap for the country.”
As demand for high-capacity broadband, enterprise connectivity, public Wi-Fi and emerging digital applications continues to accelerate, decisions on the future use of the 6 GHz band are expected to play a critical role in supporting India’s digital economy, innovation ecosystem and future 5G and 6G networks.
The programme will feature six high-impact policy sessions examining some of the most important questions facing the sector today:
- Beyond Indoor: The Case for (and Against) Standard Power & Outdoor Wi-Fi
- AFC: Silver Bullet or System Burden?
- Coexistence Without Compromise: Protecting Incumbents, Enabling Innovation
- The 6 GHz Fault Line: Wi-Fi vs IMT—or Can They Coexist?
- Global Models, Indian Realities: Copy, Adapt or Leapfrog?
- Wi-Fi in the 5G–6G Era: Complement, Competitor or Converged Layer?
The conference will conclude with a high-level roundtable focused on identifying practical policy recommendations and possible next steps for India’s evolving 6 GHz spectrum framework.
With global momentum building around 6 GHz Wi-Fi and next-generation wireless technologies, the conference aims to foster informed discussion, share international experiences and contribute to the development of policies that maximise spectrum efficiency while supporting innovation, investment and digital inclusion.
