K Balaji appointed Joint Secretary in Department of Telecommunications
K Balaji, a 2010 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications. His tenure has been set for a combined period of five years, running until April 27, 2027, from the date he assumes charge, or until further orders from the government.
The appointment adds an experienced administrative hand to one of India’s most consequential policy departments, at a time when the DoT is overseeing a dense agenda spanning 5G rollout, satellite communications policy, spectrum management, and the evolving regulatory landscape around direct-to-device connectivity. The department has also been at the centre of deliberations around India’s broader digital infrastructure ambitions, including its push to develop a domestic semiconductor and telecom equipment manufacturing base.
