TCS makes 25,000 fresher offers, expands AI-led staffing
Tata Consultancy Services has made 25,000 fresher offers for FY27, and may hire more depending on market demand, CEO K Krithivasan said. The company had recruited 44,000 graduates in FY26 and over 40,000 annually for the last three years. Krithivasan ruled out an increased dependence on lateral hires, noting that while freshers need up to nine months of training, experienced employees deliver from day one. He said hiring will continue to be demand-led.
Downplaying the likelihood of another restructuring following last year’s 12,000 layoffs, Krithivasan said roles were trimmed mainly at senior levels due to changes in project execution, not AI adoption. TCS’s deal pipeline remains stable, with discretionary spending improving and bookings of about $40 billion in FY26. The company is focusing on acquisitions, partnerships—including with AMD—and employee utilisation to expand margins.
Nearly half of the internal staffing decisions at TCS are now made through its AI-enabled talent marketplace, which automatically matches employees to projects. The move marks a shift from manager-led allocations and influences promotions, pay growth and skill development. TCS said AI-based matching accelerates deployment, reduces bench time and enhances utilisation. The company, which ended March 2026 with 584,519 employees and attrition of 13.7%, is extending AI use across recruitment, training and HR support to boost productivity and profitability.
