5G Phone Roll-Outs To Benefit Antenna, RF Module Suppliers

The roll-outs of 5G-enabled phones in 2020 will benefit the supply chain engaging in antennas, RF modules, camera modules and batteries, according to industry sources.

Sony Mobile Communications has launched recently its new flagship models: Xperia 1 II and Xperia Pro. The Xperia Pro, which supports both mmWave and sub-6 GHz technologies, features 4-channel capacitive antennas designed to provide steady transmission and reception functionalities of 5G phones on mmWave environments, said the sources.

The launch of two-mode 5G phones by Sony Mobile could help drive up demand for antennas, RF components, high-frequency capacitors and cooling devices, indicated the sources.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics’ new flagship family products, including Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra, all feature large-size displays, which could help boost sales at related supply chain partners, said the sources.

Additionally, the Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with a108-megapixel camera that may send other handset brands following suit, added the sources.

China-based handset brands including Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Realme are also keen to roll out 5G phones although sales of smartphones in China have been hampered by the coronavirus outbreak.

Huawei has launched its 5G phone, the Mate Xs, as well as an array of new tablets and notebooks. All of it new tablets and notebooks in addition to the 5G phone come with a 5G modem module, which will help drive shipment growth at its 5G chips and RF component partners, commented the sources.

Meanwhile, Realme has also unveiled its first 5G phone, the X50 Pro 5G, supporting sub-6 GHz, mmWave and Wi-Fi connectivity and 65W SuperDart fast charging. It also features a 4-lens rear camera, including one with a resolution of up to 64-megapixel.―Digitimes
