TSMC donates NT$100 million chip equipment to NARLabs

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is donating more than NT$100 million (US$3.12 million) worth of equipment to National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs), reports said Tuesday (April 2).

As a result, students at the latter’s semiconductor center will be able to learn how to work with the industry’s most advanced machinery. The delivery of the equipment will bridge the gap between studies and real work experience after graduation, per Radio Taiwan International (RTI).

NARLabs set up a program with TSMC to allow new graduates to get used to the work at semiconductor companies faster. Officials at the world’s largest contract chipmaker described talent as the key element determining its competitiveness.

As a result, the company will continue to involve itself in education programs by donating equipment and funding research and study programs. TSMC recently donated a grant of NT$100 million to a new semiconductor studies department at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), reports said. Taiwan News
