Telcos’ AGR rises 8% YoY to ₹84,270 crore in December quarter
India’s telecom sector registered robust growth in the December 2025 quarter, with total gross revenue of telecom service providers (TSPs) surpassing the ₹1 lakh crore mark for the first time, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The industry’s gross revenue stood at ₹1.02 lakh crore in October–December 2025, up from ₹96,390 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2024 and ₹99,828 crore in the preceding September 2025 quarter. The adjusted gross revenue (AGR) grew 8.13% year-on-year to ₹84,270 crore, compared with ₹77,934 crore a year earlier.
Major access service providers — Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea — accounted for 84.54% of the total AGR during the period. TRAI’s latest Performance Indicator Report (which provides operator-wise AGR data up to September 2025) showed Reliance Jio leading with ₹31,767.11 crore in AGR, followed by Bharti Airtel at ₹28,497.45 crore, and Vodafone Idea at ₹8,176.62 crore.
Among public sector operators, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)—despite returning to profitability—recorded a 12.61% YoY decline in AGR to ₹2,003.48 crore. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) posted a steep 75% drop in AGR to ₹37.77 crore.
On the government revenue front, licence fee collections rose 8% YoY to ₹6,733 crore, while spectrum usage charges increased 3.19% to ₹1,020 crore.
Subscriber growth trends
India’s total telephone subscriber base rose from 1,228.94 million in September 2025 to 1,306.14 million in December 2025, marking a 6.28% quarterly growth. Overall tele-densityincreased from 86.65% to 91.74% during the same period.
The total Internet subscriber base climbed 1.06% QoQ, reaching 1,028.61 million by December 2025, comprising 45.32 million wired and 983.29 million wireless users. The broadband base expanded by 1.18% to 1,007.35 million, while wireline subscriptions grew 1.62% QoQ, closing at 47.37 million — a 20.63% YoY increase.
The wireless subscriber base rose from 1,182.32 million in September to 1,258.77 million in December 2025, a 6.47% quarterly and 9.4% annual growth, driven by net additions of 76.45 million users.
