Roaming IoT data To match 165 mn 4K Netflix streaming hours In 5 yrs

The amount of data generated by roaming internet of things (IoT) connections will grow from to 86 petabytes in 2022 to 1,100 petabytes in 2027, a study revealed on Wednesday.

This data is enough to Stream the equivalent of 165 million Hours of 4K video on gaming and entertainment platforms like Netflix according to Juniper Research.

One petabyte equals 1,024 Terabytes (TB) which is 1 million gigabytes (GB).

The growth of 1,140 percent in the coming five years is fueled by the demise of 3G networks, which will require the use of low-power mobile networks.

Just 2 percent of the total IoT roaming devices will depend on 5G networks before 2027 due to the low power consumption and low frequency of data transmission that is seen by the vast majority of devices.

“Only use cases that are dependent on high-speed and low-latency data downloads, like connected factories and autonomous vehicles will justify investment by enterprises in 5G connectivity” according to the report.

The study revealed that low-power wide-area networks offer an inexpensive alternative to operator-led cellular networks such as 5G and 4G and are driving the growth of IoT roaming connections via low-power and high-penetration coverage.

Roaming IoT connections make use of Wireless services that are not part of their network provider, and can access connections from other providers of cellular.

The report showed that roaming IoT connections from the US will produce 277 petabytes of data by 2027, representing 26 percent of the total worldwide.

In the event of AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon ending 3G networks in 2022 roaming IoT connections will be distributed to low-power wide-area 5G or 4G networks that cover a wide area according to the need. TeluguStop
