Reliance Jio, India’s 4G-only telecom operator has decided to stop biometrics-based attendance for its employees across the country as a safety precaution and to enhance hygiene at the workplace.

The Mukesh Ambani-led telco has informed its employees that their attendance will now be marked through “Jio Beat Planner”.

“In the wake of the rapid;y evolving situation surrounding the outbreak of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), it is very important to take preventive measures for safety of one and all…The attendance marked through Jio Beat Planner will come for your approval. Once approved, attendance will get updated in ESS within 48 hours,” Jio HR said in a communication to its employees, urging managers to install the application.

The Indian government has ordered all telecom firms to make a 30-second audio clip on coronavirus as a caller tune of mobile phone users to create awareness among masses about the epidemic. Jio and state-owned BSNL have fully complied with the order and started playing the audio clip.

The order was based on a request from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Following the order, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) ordered superseding of the phone ringing tone that one hears on dialling a number, with the 30-second information clip.
