Convergence India 2026
Quantum Leap for India: National Mission Sets Stage for Deep-Tech Breakthroughs
India’s ambitions in next-generation technology took centre stage at the Transformation Stage of Convergence India Expo 2026, where a keynote session on the National Quantum Mission outlined a bold roadmap for the country’s technological future.
Addressing the session, Dr J. B. V. Reddy, Head of the Quantum Technology Cell at the Department of Science & Technology, presented a compelling case demonstrating quantum technology as a transformative force across industries.
“Quantum technology has several important applications across various domains,” said Dr J. B. V. Reddy.
He further highlighted its potential to significantly enhance data security in communications, enable less invasive and more precise diagnostics in healthcare and accelerate drug discovery timelines.
“Its ability to strengthen financial systems through improved data protection while dramatically increasing the speed of big data analysis”, he added.
At the heart of India’s strategy is a strong push toward building indigenous capabilities. Reddy underscored the importance of quantum computing fabrication and the establishment of centralised facilities at leading institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). These hubs are expected to serve as launchpads for innovation, enabling researchers and startups to develop homegrown quantum processors, sensors, materials and devices.
Beyond infrastructure, the mission is equally focused on talent. By integrating training in quantum hardware, device fabrication and system integration, the initiative aims to create a skilled workforce that sustains India’s futuristic quantum vision.
The keynote reflected a broader shift in India’s tech narrative, from being a consumer of advanced technologies to becoming a creator of deep-tech solutions. Given that quantum technology is still in its early stages globally, the mission positions India to compete at the forefront of innovation.
The session reinforced a clear message: the quantum era is no longer theoretical, it is strategic, imminent and central to India’s tech destiny.
The Convergence India Expo, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, remains one of the country’s premier platforms for technology, telecom and digital innovation, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders and emerging startups under one roof. The next edition is scheduled for March 23–25, 2027.
