ICEA welcomes strong industry response to Electronics Manufacturing Scheme
The Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) has welcomed the strong industry response to the government’s Electronics Manufacturing Scheme (EMS), which has attracted investment proposals worth over ₹1,15,351 crore from 249 applicants. Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the figures earlier this week.
ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said the robust participation demonstrates India’s growing importance in global value chains. “With investments of this scale from both domestic and international companies, India is clearly emerging as a critical pillar in global electronics manufacturing,” he noted.
Mohindroo added that the scheme would anchor the local production of sub-assemblies and components, boosting competitiveness across all electronics verticals. He particularly highlighted the encouraging participation of MSMEs, which account for more than 60% of applications, saying this would drive large-scale employment opportunities.
He reiterated that the industry is working closely with the government to not just meet but exceed the scheme’s ambitious targets.
