Govt mulls cancelling licenses of telcos that fail to resolve call drop issue

In response to a query raised in the Lok Sabha regarding the call drop problem in India, Minister of Communication & Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw responded that the government is investigating the depth of the call dropping issue of whether the problem of call drop is unprecedented across the country. And based on the severity of the issue, whether the Government proposes to cancel the licenses of the telecom companies in case of their failure in resolving the said problem?

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regularly monitors the performance of TSPs for the License Service Area (LSA) and submits Performance Monitoring Reports (PMRs) every quarter based on key parameters like Quality of Service to create benchmarks. And Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) need to maintain call drop rate in their mobile networks so that it remains within the benchmarks laid down by TRAI.
