GlobalWafers resumes production at Japanese plants post earthquake
Taiwan’s GlobalWafers Co Ltd said on Wednesday it had fully resumed production at its Japanese factories after suspending operations following a strong earthquake which hit Japan’s Noto peninsula on New Year’s Day.
In a statement to the Taipei stock exchange, the company said it had five factory locations in Japan, two of which are in Niigata, part of the quake affected zone.
GlobalWafers said it had suspended operations on Monday and Tuesday for inspections, but having found no damage work has now resumed.
It said it did not see the suspension having a major impact on the company’s finances.
GlobalWafers is one of the world’s largest producers of the silicon wafers which are used to make semiconductors and a major supplier to TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker. Reuters
