EU proposes $6.8 billion sat-com plan in global space push
On Tuesday, the European Commission unveiled a 6 billion-euro ($6.8 billion) satellite communications plan, as part of a push to decrease the European Union’s reliance on foreign companies and protect key communications services and surveillance data against any outside interference.
“Our new connectivity infrastructure will deliver high-speed internet access, serve as a back-up to our current internet infrastructure, increase our resilience and cyber security, and provide connectivity to the whole of Europe and Africa,” EU industry chief Thierry Breton said in a statement.
