EU clears €400M state aid for new Czech semiconductor plant
The European Commission has approved €400 million in state aid for a new semiconductor plant in the Czech Republic, marking a significant step in Europe’s effort to expand domestic chip manufacturing.
The facility will be built by the U.S.-based company Onsemi and will produce advanced silicon-carbide (SiC) power semiconductors. According to the Commission, this will be the first integrated SiC device manufacturing plant in Europe covering the full production chain.
The project is being pursued under the framework of the European Chips Act, which aims to reduce the EU’s reliance on Asian suppliers and strengthen strategic supply-chain resilience. TVP World
