China Handset Inventory Hits 60 Million Units

Stockpiles of handset inventory in China’s distribution channels are now estimated at nearly 60 million units, which may take at least two months to clear out and force handset brands to adjust their roadmaps for new models, according to sources from Taiwan’s handset supply chain.

Apple has warned its iPhone shipments may fall short of its guidance for its fiscal second quarter, and China-based Oppo reportedly has turned conservative about its shipment forecast and cut back its orders to supply chain makers, said the sources.

Oppo has also decided to push back the launch of its new model, the Find X2, while its sub-brand Realme has opted to release its upcoming X50 Pro via an online-only event, noted the sources.

Huawei will also launch its next-generation foldable Mate Xs 5G online, along with an array of new products, including smartphones, tablets, IoT and 5G devices.―Digitimes
