Cabinet meeting on upcoming 5G auctions today

The Cabinet is set to consider the DoT’s proposals for the upcoming 5G auctions today.

Important issues the Cabinet will have to weigh in on include deciding whether spectrum should be directly allocated to enterprises for private networks, or whether telcos should be given the sole charge on the market.

The Cabinet will also be approving the spectrum reserve price for 5G, set by the DoT, as well as approve 5G spectrum for the BSNL.

And whether the millimetre wave (mmWave) band — 28GHz (27.5GHz-28.5GHz) will be reserved for the satellite players or this band included in the auction, among other issues.

It is reported that the Union Cabinet has in principle approved the 5G spectrum auction with Rs 4.5 lakh crore at the reserve price. Details will be announced as soon as the meeting is over today.
