BSNL getting back on track

BSNL will officially launch 4G services in the next three to four months or after reaching 20,000 base transceiver stations (BTS), said BSNL CMD Pravin Kumar Purwar. The state-run telco has already installed 3,000 BTS across five circles in North India – Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh West.

After the northern states, it is the turn of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, among other southern states. The company has mapped out large parts of these states for tower installation. This includes more than 4,200 4G sites in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“We would be able to arrest subscriber loss post-June 2024 once the commercial 4G service have been launched, said Purwar.

Purwar said that BSNL aims to launch its 5G network using the same indigenous technology stack by December 2024. “We have set the December 2024 timeline. All the sites are upgradable to 5G via a software update.
