Apple starts pulling in component orders for new iPhones

Apple has started pulling in shipments of passive components needed for the production of its next-generation iPhone devices slated for launch in the latter half of 2021, according to sources from Taiwan’s handset supply chain.

Cyntec, reportedly being a major supplier of power chokes for iPhone devices, is likely to see its revenue grow over 25% on year in the second quarter of 2021 thanks to orders from Apple, the sources indicated.

The company already experienced a 30% on-year increase in its revenues in the first quarter.

Cyntec is also set to secure more orders from Apple in the third quarter as over 50% of this year’s new iPhones will support 5G mmWave communication, which requires more power chokes and other inductors to enable the technology, said the sources.

Quartz and oscillator supplier TXC will also see its supply ratio for iPhone devices increase this year due to the higher yield rates of its oscillator products, said the sources, noting that the firm is on track to see robust sales in the second half of the year.

In addition to increasing orders from Apple, handset component suppliers could also see orders from Chinese handset brands expand by double-digit rates in the third quarter as they will gear up efforts to launch new 5G models for the second half of the year, the sources added.

Global smartphone shipments are likely to grow 6.4% to 1.32 billion units in 2021, of which 5G models will expand 70-80% to 500-530 million units, according to the latest forecast of Digitimes Research. Digitimes
